    Not dead yet
Yeah, been awhile. Life's decided that Murphy wasn't working hard enough, so it wanted to play with me a bit. So... things have changed. A bunch. New state, new job, lots of tedious alterations in my hectic little world. I'm finally finding time to write again, but nothing on my WIPs unfortunately. Going to post the first two chapters on a multi-crossover just to see if anyone's got comments/crits that might help a bit. *yawn* Then bed. Yeah, bed sounds perfect. Is it the weekend yet?

My 2011 Snarry-a-Thon entry, for those who missed the fest
    Title: Marital Probation Bliss

    Author: Rowaine (rowained@yahoo.com)

Other pairings/threesome: Slight mention of Harry/Ginny (past), and Hermione/Lucius (present)

    Rating: NC-17

Word count: Eep! Let me get out the abacus... Just over 7700, not counting the header etc.

Warning(s): Dubiously consensual kissing and grumbly consensual sex, eventually. Profanity and name-calling, a few thrown household items... you know, the usual happy marriage. Not a 'serious' story!

Prompt: #113: Harry decides to rescue Snape from a life in Azkaban by marrying him. Snape decides to exact a long, slow revenge by acting out the role of perfect housewife with exactness, attention to detail, and a vicious flair that is perfectly Snapey. A delightful prompt by the lovely and talented shiv5468.

Summary: Voldemort's been gone five glorious years, and the magical world is slowly coming back to sanity. The one exception is their hero, Harry Potter - his job, his friends, and his love life all seem to be lacking. Regret urges him toward a decision that will shake the foundations of his life.

A/N: Sorry shiv, but I'm not sure how vicious I made the Snape. There's a few spots, but... yeah. Hope you like the effort though!

Betas: The ever-patient, perceptive, tenacious, delightful, and hug-worthy talents of Carry145 and AuctaSinistra... Ladies, I owe you both a lifetime supply of chocolate/brownies or whatever cravings you prefer.

    Beta requested
Feels like I forgot something... Oh yeah! This year's Snarry-a-Thon - I signed up, got my prompt, wrote it that same night, then forgot for nearly two months to find a beta reader.

If anyone on my flist has the time and inclination to proof @90kb story (7500+/- word count) and have it returned within a week for final fix-its, please let me know how I can reach you? Brit-picking would be nice as well, but there's not much I think that needs it.

And I was so proud to have gotten it done well before the due date. Think my son's been slipping bleach in my shampoo or something.

Thanks to the dozen lovely people who emailed or PMed me!

    BtVS Update: Surviving, Part 7
    Title: Surviving, Part 7

    Author: Rowaine (rowained@yahoo.com)

Summary: Sometimes even seasoned veterans get tired, completely fed up with the world around them. When that happens... all you can pray for is to survive.

Rating: Overall rating R, with splashes of NC-17 along the way. The first few chapters are mostly a strong PG-13.

Pairings: Mentions of various canon pairings, but mainly Spander. As if I'd write anything else. *snort*

Spoilers: Through all seasons of BtVS and AtS, with a few modest adjustments. It's called artistic license -- but we all know it's just 'cus Joss was on drugs when he killed off certain characters.

Warnings: Starts off fairly depressing. And except for the occasional dark humor, it does eventually seem to get better. Character death (major and OC), mentions of prostitution and drug abuse, child abuse and neglect, and assorted aspects of the homeless (aka transient) subculture. This is not an attempt to bash any canon characters, but it doesn't show certain ones in the most positive light.

Disclaimer: Since Joss has no boobs and is equipped with an extra dangly bit, I fail to see a resemblence between us. His toys, his world, my delusions.

Author's Note: You folks don't need the whole horrifying sob story of the past 16 months of my life. Suffice it to say that I must be working off the combined karma of Hitler, Khan, Hoffa and Dahlmer. Here's the next chapter of Surviving, with more to come... provided no more apocolypses rain down on my head :P

Anyways, here we go. Sorry for the wait!

Xover (BtVS, HP, SG1) - Missing Persons, Found Lives, Chapter 1
Before anyone starts yelling at me about my WIPs, let me add a personal disclaimer: I began this story almost 3 years ago. It was an interesting idea that just wouldn't go away. Now that I've begun trying to write again, just thought I'd shake the cobwebs off this one and see what kind of responses I'd get.

    Title: Missing Persons, Found Lives

    Author: Rowaine

Summary: Family is who you collect along the way. But sometimes, it's nice to discover where you came from.

Rating: PG-13 to R... unless some kind of wicked bunny bites me into heavy smut.

Main Characters: Harry Potter, Severus Snape, Xander Harris, Rupert Giles, Daniel Jackson, Jack O'Neill

    Halloween ficlet - BtVS
    Title: Hangover

    Author: Rowaine

Summary: Just a little snippet of Spike dealing with Xander's "problem".

    Rating: Pg-ish

    Pairings: who else?

Warnings: Abuse of chocolate and bubble soap

Author's Notes: Written for the 2010 fall-for-sx. And seeing as I'm mourning my 40th bday, I'm already a bit tipsy while writing this...

Disclaimer: Nope, still don't have the right bits to come close to owning the boys. Mmm, can that be my birthday wish?

    RE: New LJIJFBTwatter Fuckupery
I'm not sure what this is all about, having not read the news etc, and honestly doubt it'll much apply to me personally for the foreseeable future. (Whether it applies to Insanejournal or not, this is my formal request as well as a rant!)

    HOWEVER

If people specifically request that you not crosspost to either of these low-security sites whose idea of checking member ages is "hey, let me assume you're 18 unless you tell me otherwise", then it's really simple: Don't crosspost, repost, forward a link, or do more than mention that "a comment about that subject was made by X".

Actually, just to be safe and POLITE about it, might want to practice that anyways. Most people don't like the security risk, damage to privacy, and unwanted, unsolicited comments from complete strangers. Not to mention the oceans of spam, bots and all that you'll probably let in.

So thanks, but keep it to yourselves, k? A mention or recommendation *without* the links is great. You had to take the time and effort to sign up and get age approval for these folks/sites, so make everyone else work for it too.

Hope this doesn't come off as grumpy, cus it isn't meant to, but honestly... Friends don't let friends make StoopidNoob mistakes, right? *lol*

Sorta back, until life interferes again
Alright... good news and bad news, but first a huge hug and slurpy smooch to those who've emailed me about the crap going on this past year and a half. Your good wishes and lovely words have kept me afloat!

Now news: Good! So very good! My adopted daughter is expecting my first grandbaby in about 4 weeks. They just found out it's a girl, and have chosen a name that means the world to me (and not just as a card-carrying Jossite!) Serenity Faith will come into this world surrounded by more love and doting family members that she'll have to work at achieving the normal levels of teen angst *nodnod* And I'm not one bit proud Gammaw, nope!

Bad... maybe, maybe not. I'm trying to work my way back into writing, something I've dearly missed! But there's a possibility that I might've over-extended myself. Three ficathons, fall-for-sx, and two helpings of proofreading for bigfics. Granted, it's going to keep me happily entertained (and massively harried) for the next 6-8 weeks, but something tells me that I done a dumb thing.

BTW - there will be only ONE attempt at groveling for forgiveness over my absence, and this is it! Updates might be sporadic for awhile until I get back in the swing of things, and I can't promise to be better at leaving reviews/comments, but hey, there's effort being made here.

And *sigh* I've really missed everyone.

    Losing My Mind
Real life sucks big hairy rat balls.

Also, I've completely lost one full directory of saved files, and have a story line going through my head that I know was in my SG-1 collection but now I can't find the entire thing and can't think of the title or author. If any of my wonderful (if neglected) friendslist follow SG-1 fic featuring Jack and Daniel as the primary pairing, please see if this rings a bell:

SG-1 had to cut their stay at planet x-whatever because of earthquake type activity, leaving huge gaping ravines in the land. Sam and Teal'c have made it through the gate, but Jack and Daniel were stranded. They end up staying for several months in a cave, eventually having to share sleeping bags for warmth during the bitterly cold winter. In one scene, Daniel makes a point of climbing a tall mountain to force himself to confront his fear of heights. When they eventually get back home, Daniel and Janet and Jack and Sam are two couples where the women tolerate (?) their men's closeness.

This is not a gay!Jack or gay!Daniel story, folks. They are two heterosexual men who find relief and comfort with each other.

It might not be alot to go by, but any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Attention cooks!
I've been challenged by a friend (who loves super hot food) to create the Ultimate Fire pepper poppers. Problem is that our household just doesn't eat that much of the really hot stuff. And so, my request:

If you've got a recipe for blazing hot food, please send it my way? Or even just a suggestion for how to get the most fire for these peppers.

I've got a marinade of jalapeno & red chili in vinegar, tequila & lime juice started right now, and plan on soaking pablemo, serrano, jalapeno and pulla peppers in it for a few days. Then stuff them in order of size, with some of the marinade and some pepper jack cheese, and coat in jalapeno corn bread before deep frying.

There's gotta be more spice and fire that can be added, but that's where I'm coming up short.

Please help me out - I've got $50 coming to me if I can make this guy's eyes tear up, but he's really used to hotter-the-better.

    Mother's day
    Yeah, it's that time again...

Happy Mom's day to all (where applicable).

My son has to leave the house at 4 am for his job. He decided to wake me up for a hug and kiss to wish me a good day before he left. As I'd gone to bed at 2 am, this was a mixed gift. But still, he remembered, right?

Daughter baked cookies for Mom's day. The good kind of extra buttery sugar cookie that's its own meal... and they're super yummy, don't get me wrong. But she left a total mess in the kitchen. I get the impression that she thinks it's my turn to do dishes too.

    So, fun...

Now if I could just get a call back from a few of the million-and-one applications I've turned in, my holiday would be complete. Insert eyeroll and tongue sticking out here.

Summary: Just an alternate universe one-shot. Dark themes.

    Rating: PG-13ish

    Pairings: Harry/Draco/Severus, mentions of Harry/Bella

Warnings: Harry is NOT the ultimate hero for the light.

Disclaimer: I claim no rights to the characters and world of JKR’s Harry Potter books/movies. No money is made by me.

Need recs for special topic please
I was just informed that a good friend of mine from college is in a coma, and they don't expect her to revive. Our last year in college, she was dating an exchange student (not telling which nationality, cus I don't blame the country!) and got pregnant. Being the good lil southern girl that she was, she married the guy. Over the last 20 years, she's been put in hospital at least 18 times that I'm aware of. Why? Her husband. He's not a drunk, druggie or from an abusive family. Actually, they're really nice. How did he manage to be a wife beater? No one knows. The police aren't protecting her or the kids - after graduation, they moved back to his native country, and the law enforcement there turns a blind eye to this sort of thing. They now have eight living children (two died under odd circumstances), and she was pregnant AGAIN when she was admitted last week.

My hands are tied. Even if I were on the correct continent, there is nothing legally that can be done to this sonuvabitch. All I can do is mourn for her, pray for her, and beg the powers that her kids end up with their grandparents.

I want to cry... which is no easy thing for me. So my request to you good folks is this: Please recommend hurt/comfort, tear-jerkers, and other kick-in-the-gut stories from HP, BtVS, SG-1, Firefly, and/or NCIS.

It's a poor substitute, but will possibly take my mind off that which I can't change. Thanks all, with love.
